UCMAS Bowmanville offers an abacus-based mental math program for children ages 5–13. Through structured, progressive learning, children develop arithmetic skills while strengthening concentration, memory, visualization and confidence.
Children begin by learning to perform calculations using an abacus and gradually progress towards visualizing the abacus to solve mathematical problems mentally. The program provides an engaging way to build number sense and develop skills that support learning beyond mathematics.
What Kids Can Learn
Children can develop a range of mathematical and cognitive skills, including:
. Abacus-based arithmetic and mental math
. Faster and more accurate calculations
. Number sense and numerical reasoning
. Concentration and sustained attention
. Memory and visualization
. Problem-solving and confidence with numbers
